Free Flying Start sessions for 2-year-olds

Uplands is a homely pair of converted houses near the city centre. Morriston has gardens, a forest school and its own car park beside the hospital. Same warm team, same open-all-year hours.

Forest school & gardens
Outdoors, in all weathers
Mud kitchens, log circles, bug hunts and den building. Children spend lots of time outside every day, exploring nature, taking safe risks and finding out what their bodies can do.
Child-led, Curriculum for Wales
Learning through play
We follow the Curriculum for Wales with a child-led approach. Open-ended play, real objects and invitations to explore, built around the seasons, festivals and whatever has caught the children's imagination this week.
Cymraeg & culture
Croeso! Welsh every day
Welsh playgroup sessions, Welsh songs and everyday phrases woven through the day. Our policies are available in English and Welsh, and Welsh language and culture are a big part of our planning.
Food & growing
Grow it, cook it, eat it
Our menu changes with the seasons and uses locally sourced produce. The children grow fruit and vegetables, harvest them, cook with us and serve themselves at mealtimes.

From breakfast hellos to home-time stories
Every day follows each child's own rhythm for sleep, food and play, but here's roughly how it flows.

Hellos & breakfast
Doors open at 7:30am. A warm hand-over, a proper breakfast and time to settle in with friends.
2Mid-morning
Out we go
Garden, mud kitchen or forest school, whatever the weather. Wellies on!
3Late morning
Choose & create
Messy play, building, stories and Welsh songs. Children choose where their curiosity takes them.
4Lunchtime
Serve yourself
A seasonal, home-cooked lunch. Little ones pour their own drinks and dish up their own plates.
5Early afternoon
Rest & recharge
Naps that follow each child's own routine, or quiet stories and cosy corners.
6Afternoon
Projects & play
Baking, planting, painting, parachute games. Plenty of time to finish what they started.
7Home time

From first cuddles to the first day of school, and beyond
Children stay with us as they grow, moving up with friends to rooms made for each stage. And once they start school, we can do the school run.

Calm rooms, soft spaces and gentle routines that follow your baby's own sleeps and feeds. Baby sign at Uplands helps little ones tell you what they need.

Climbing, splashing, building and first friendships. Our toddler rooms are full of things to do, with outdoor play every day.

What are your opening hours?
Both nurseries are open 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. We close on bank holidays and you're not charged for them.
Do you offer half days?
Yes. Children can come for full days or half days, and you can mix and match to suit your working week.
How much are your fees?
Fees depend on the sessions you need, so give your nursery a ring, email us at info@highgatedaynursery.co.uk or send an enquiry and we'll talk you through it. Remember to check your funding first: Tax-Free Childcare saves 20%, Flying Start for 2-year-olds (universal childcare funded by Welsh Government) saves £20 a day, the Childcare Offer can cover up to two days a week, and if you're eligible for Universal Credit you may get up to 85% of your fees paid. What ages do you take?
Our day nurseries care for babies up to 5 years old: Uplands from birth and Morriston from 4 months. We also do school pick-ups and drop-offs.
Do you accept Flying Start and the Childcare Offer?
Yes. Both nurseries accept Flying Start for 2-year-olds (universal childcare funded by Welsh Government) and the Childcare Offer for Wales for 3 and 4-year-olds, and we take Tax-Free Childcare.
